The LLD ZEN blog is here to help you live a more balanced and pain-free life. It's something I've been meaning to do for a couple years, and I've decided to dig in and make it happen, sharing insights I've gained living with a 3/4" (19mm) leg length discrepancy due to breaking my left femur when I was two.
I began doing yoga when I was twenty to deal with the low back pain caused by my LLD. Around 2013, I began getting my shoes lifted, and my daily morning back pain went away almost immediately.
It took a few years to get my hips more balanced and aligned, and it's still an everyday balancing act. However, I'm feeling better than ever and more aligned than I have in years. That's thanks to shoe lifts from American Heelers, yoga, kettlebells, and foot-shaped shoes, along with a little acupressure.
How I found balance
Picking out the right shoes to lift can be tricky. It took me years to find shoes that felt comfortable, and also looked decent.
And to look decent once lifted, the shoe's midsoles need to match the available EVA foam colors that are used for shoe lifts. The most common being white, grey, brown, and black.
However, I urge you not to get lifts with white midsoles, as lighter colors will look bigger, making your lift obvious. When what you want, is for no one to notice your lift at all.
That's why I recommend shoes with solid black or brown midsoles (sometimes grey), as they will make the lift less noticeable.
Also, wide toe shoes are a must, for proper stability and preventing ankle rolling which can become an issue on the lifted leg.
